In the event that a student does not complete an IPPE rotation (728-430, 435, 445, 530, 535, 545, 630, 635, 645) during their scheduled block, the individual course penalty will apply. Please consult the course (728-425/6, 525/6, 625/6) grading rubric or policy for details. All missed rotations must be rescheduled and completed within the following two blocks or by the end of the academic year (block 8), whichever is sooner.* For example, if a rotation is missed in block 4, it must be completed by the end of block 6. If a rotation is not completed as described above, the student will fail the IPPE course and will be referred to the Student Promotion and Academic Review Committee according to School of Pharmacy Policy.
Steps a student should follow after a rotation has been missed:
- Alert the course coordinator and experiential program staff to the missed rotation as soon as he/she becomes aware of the missed rotation.
- Contact the assigned preceptor within two weeks of becoming aware of the missed rotation. Apologize for the oversight and request the hours be rescheduled to a different block (within the next two blocks or by the end of the academic year, whichever is sooner).
- If the preceptor declines rescheduling, reach out to the course coordinator and experiential program staff members to alert them to the need for an alternate site.
- If the assigned preceptor agrees to rescheduling, choose dates and times of observation to complete required rotation hours and the required activities/observations.
- Email the course coordinator and experiential program staff the new dates/times to complete your hours and required observations/activities as soon as confirmed. (The course coordinator will assign a student to the appropriate block in the course learning management system. Experiential program staff will assign a student to the appropriate block so that preceptors have access to required evaluations.)
Course coordinators reserve the right to use discretion in grading in extenuating circumstances.
Note: Block 8 rotations and rotations graded within a specific semester (e.g. a rotation graded in the fall semester) must be completed prior to the end of the semester grading period. In these circumstances, a student should contact the IPPE course coordinator and experiential program staff as soon as possible.
