The primary goals for this course are to: 1) engage in patient-centered care using the Pharmacist Patient Care Process (PPCP) under the supervision of a preceptor; 2) appraise medical literature and formulate an evidence-based answer to a clinical question in the form of a clinical inquiry; 3) provide opportunities to observe and interact with interprofessional teams.
Upon completion of the 728-625/626 courses, the student is expected to:*
- Develop and enhance oral and written communication skills with patients, pharmacists, and other healthcare providers (UW EO: 6a, 6b, 6c)
- Demonstrate commitment to patient safety by assuring total accuracy in calculation, preparation, labeling, and dispensing of prescription and medication orders (UW EO: 5)
- Retrieve and interpret primary, secondary, and tertiary sources to answer a clinical question (UW EO: 1,2)
- Identify, assess, and provide recommendations to patients and other healthcare providers to resolve medication- and health-related problems using the Pharmacist Patient Care Process (UW EO: 3, 6)
- Display professional attitudes, habits, and values in accordance with ethical and social guidelines (UW EO: 11)
- Identify and address public health problems and promote health and wellness for both individuals and populations (UW EO: 6, 13)
- Apply relevant legal and professional principles to analyze and evaluate pharmacy operations and personnel (UW EO: 9, 11)
- Reflect upon experiences through structured learning activities and assignments. (15)
