Additional Course Policies
Scheduling Hours in Advance of Each Rotation. It is expected that students complete/update their electronic student profile and email or call their clinical instructor at least two weeks prior to the start of the IPPE rotation to set up time for rotation hours per the IPPE Scheduling Policy. Students who do not contact their clinical instructor two weeks in advance will receive a grade deduction. Refer to Evaluation and Grading section of the 728-625/6 manual for details.
Email Communication. It is imperative that you check your email reguarly as described in the Email Communication Policy.
Canvas. Students enrolled in 728-625/6 should regularly access the course at Canvas for information, including archived course announcements. Course resources designed to assist students in completing their assignments are also posted in Canvas in the content section.
Assignment & Checklist Submission. This is an electronic course and all assignments & rotation checklists will be electronically uploaded to the Canvas course site. Paper submissions of assignments and checklists will not be accepted. Inability to upload or submit assignment/checklist due to information technology difficulties will not be accepted unless the course coordinator is contacted prior to the due date. It is strongly recommended that students maintain paper copies of all electronically uploaded documents until final grades have been awarded in the spring semester.
Clerkship Hours. Only time spent at the clinical site can be counted for hours. Transit time to and from the practice site will not count for clerkship/internship hours.
Early Warning and Intervention Policy for 728-625/6. The UW-Madison School of Pharmacy has instituted an Early Warning and Intervention Policy that applies to required courses. The policy is intended to identify students who may be at risk for earning a final course grade of less than a “C”. The intent of the policy is to help students identify strategies and implement interventions that may improve student performance and prevent a failing grade as determined by course standards. The early warning and intervention policy is not intended for students who wish to raise their grade, but are not in jeopardy of failing a course.
The course coordinator will monitor student performance throughout the course using the following milestones: 1. Preceptor evaluations of “not meeting” expectations, or 2. A clinical instructor composite score of less than 70 for the rotation evaluation. Students who earn a score that represents under performance on a milestone will be reported to the appropriate class adviser. Students will also be asked to meet with the course coordinator who will explore with the student potential reasons why the student earned a “not meeting” expectations or a composite score of less than 70 for the rotation and ask the student to develop a SMART plan for achieving success in subsequent rotations.
Students are encouraged to self-report to the course coordinator or student adviser if they are having difficulty with course content and believe that they may be at risk of earning a grade of “C” or less.
Important: If a student does not comply with the procedures in the Early Warning and Intervention Policy, the student will forfeit the option to remediate the course.
