The experiential component of the PharmD curriculum provides the opportunity to integrate and apply knowledge gained in didactic and laboratory courses. It consists of introductory practice and advanced practice experiences that have a patient-oriented emphasis. These practice experiences are intended to provide experience in a variety of patient care and/or practice environments.
Prior to entering the Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs), all students will have completed three years of Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPEs) which provide insight into community service programs, pharmacy services in an acute care (institutional setting) and an ambulatory care (community practice setting).
In the final year of the curriculum, all students will actively participate in four required rotations including 728-740 Acute Pharmaceutical Care Clerkship, 728-741 Ambulatory Pharmaceutical Care Clerkship, 728-742 Health-Systems Pharmacy Clerkship, and 728-743 Community Pharmacy Clerkship. In addition, students will complete either three or four 728-760 Elective Pharmacy Clerkship rotations. All rotations are six weeks in length.
After satisfactory completion of these courses and graduation from the University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy, students should be able to meet eligibility requirements and apply for a pharmacist license in the State of Wisconsin.
